Role Description

We are hiring certified teachers to teach virtual small-group intervention sessions. Teachers receive training on effective, proven intervention programs, are compensated for training and prep time, and join a community of serious educators, researchers, and advocates committed to changing outcomes for historically underserved children.

• Teach virtual small-group sessions mostly during school hours, with some after school classes.
• Teach groups of 3-4 students using effective programs specially adapted for virtual instruction.
• Develop caring relationships with the children you teach, helping them grow and succeed as readers.
• Provide weekly updates to school and home stakeholders, building a community of care around each child.
• Be part of a community of like-minded teachers who care deeply about every child’s success.

Qualifications

• A current teaching certificate in general or special education.
• Experience teaching reading in elementary, middle, and/or high school, using structured literacy programs and methods.
• Experience with virtual instruction using Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or other virtual tutoring platform.
• An energetic, positive, caring attitude towards children.
• Interest in the science of dyslexia and related reading difficulties.
• Successful completion of a background check, which may include fingerprinting.

Requirements

• Participation in multiple days of program training (paid).
• During the school year, 45 minutes of teaching per day, 3 days per week.
• Fingerprinting and background check.
• Weekly completion of instructional tracking reports and student updates.
• Participation in regular, weekly staff meetings.

Training and Professional Development

• Receive training in the program you are assigned to teach.
• Training in areas such as models of development, dyslexia, child & adolescent reading development, etc.
• Opportunity to participate in a mix of mentor observations, peer observations, office hours, and student case management discussions.
• Engage with leading academics in the fields of dyslexia and reading intervention.

Compensation

• Pay of $35/hour for time teaching.
• Opportunities for increases with greater responsibility (such as mentoring or site leadership).
• Reduced rate for training and a stipend for prep time, staff time, and professional development.
• Paid sick leave to all hourly employees.
