Role Description

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) is hiring a Program Specialist 4 to serve as a Curriculum Developer. Assigned to the Curriculum Unit, this position works as part of the Unit’s Instructional Systems Design team responsible for researching, creating, implementing, and evaluating Law Enforcement and Correctional training programs. The curriculum created by this position and team will impact statewide curriculum content and delivery standards. This position’s focus will be developing and updating curriculum for the Field Training Officer/Patrol Training Officer (FTO/PTO) to ensure it reflects the Agency’s focus on adult learning principles, interleaving, and certifiable curriculum standards.

Qualifications

• At least six years of experience in curriculum development for criminal justice or military personnel (law enforcement, corrections, juvenile corrections) OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Communications, English, Psychology/Sociology, or similar/related degree plan AND at least two years of experience in curriculum development for criminal justice or military personnel (law enforcement, corrections, juvenile corrections)
• At least two years of documented experience in positions requiring project management, collaboration, problem solving skills, analysis, and strategy (this experience may run concurrently with the requirements above)
• The ability to take action to learn and grow
• The ability to take action to meet the needs of others
• Understanding of adult teaching and learning methods
• Understanding and support for cultural diversity
• Ability to model the agency mission, vision, values in communications and interactions with staff and students
• Ability to perform in accordance with the agency’s code of conduct and other policies
• Strong work ethic, self-directed, and able to work in a team-teaching environment
• Skills for basic computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to support the agency's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals

Requirements

• Five years of documented experience in positions requiring project management, collaboration, problem solving skills, analysis, and strategy (preferred)
• Understanding of and/or experience with WSCJTC protocols and chain of command (preferred)
• Knowledge of training and instruction principles, content, and methodology (preferred)
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system including federal, state, and local criminal justice agencies, laws, ordinances, and regulations (preferred)
• Effective at developing and utilizing resources (preferred)
