Role Description

The Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership (MEERL) program is a professional graduate program within the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s University. Designed for working professionals in the natural resource sector, the program combines online learning with in-person sessions and brings together students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners from diverse backgrounds.

Reporting to the MEERL Director, the Program Coordinator plays a key role in the delivery of the program and the overall student experience. The position combines program operations, student support, and learning and course management, working closely with faculty, students, and other partners to support high-quality program delivery and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and dynamic team and will have significant opportunity to contribute to the continued development of the MEERL program.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, with a few years of related experience in program coordination, program management, education, learning and development or a comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting curriculum development, course design, instructional design, or learning-focused initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex programs or projects, establish priorities, coordinate multiple concurrent activities, and follow through on deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently address complex or sensitive issues and determine when escalation or consultation is appropriate.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders and providing responsive, service-oriented support.
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software, with demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems.

Requirements

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive learning strategy that aligns with program objectives, learning outcomes, and relevant best practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and update course content, ensuring it meets the highest academic standards.
  • Maintain and manage the course sites on the University’s learning management system (LMS).
  • Assist faculty in creating new online courses, formulating revision plans, assisting with material creation, and managing course implementation.
  • Implement and oversee innovative teaching methodologies, including technology integration and active learning approaches.
  • Evaluate and select learning resources, tools, and platforms to enhance the educational experience.
  • Provide and recommend training to instructors and teaching assistants on the use of educational technology tools.
  • Lead student feedback and course evaluation processes and use feedback, learning, and engagement data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate student learning and engagement data.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations and delivery of the MEERL program, ensuring activities are effectively coordinated, responsive to stakeholder needs, and aligned with program priorities.
  • Lead short- and long-term program planning, proactively identifying operational needs, seeking input from relevant stakeholders, and adapting approaches to support effective program delivery.
  • Coordinate the overall program schedule, including courses, in-person sessions, events, and other key program activities.
  • Plan and manage program events including in-person sessions, alumni events, guest lectures, program update sessions, and workshops.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, alumni, faculty, and staff on matters related to program delivery, providing timely guidance and ensuring a high-quality program experience.
  • Proactively identify and resolve operational, academic, and student-related issues, exercising sound judgment and escalating complex or sensitive matters to the MEERL Director as appropriate.
  • Advise and support students on program requirements, policies, procedures, and academic matters, including providing guidance to students experiencing academic or personal challenges and connecting them with appropriate University resources where needed.
  • Oversee student administration throughout the program lifecycle, including registration and course enrollment, grade administration, academic progression, student records, and degree completion requirements.
  • Travel as required to support program activities, conferences, and networking events.
