[Hiring] PostgreSQL Trainer @CYBERTEC PostgreSQL International GmbH

Role Description

CYBERTEC has been deeply rooted in the PostgreSQL world for over 25 years. We are looking for an experienced DBA to join our team—someone who has not only mastered the theory but is also passionate about sharing their practical experience as a trainer with both seasoned professionals and beginners. Your focus will be on training DBAs and developers across Europe. Your workplace is your home office. For training sessions, you will either connect remotely or be on-site directly at the customer's location (Europe-wide).

Responsibilities

• Trainer: Conduct standardized training sessions and customized workshops for DBAs and developers—either remotely or on-site. Topics include:
  • Deep-Dive Administration
  • Performance Tuning
  • HA Solutions
  • Architecture
• Content Creation: Create and maintain high-quality training materials (slides, handouts, background information, and blog posts). Explain complex technical relationships in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Lab Engineering: Design and build practical exercise environments (labs). Ensure that participants can apply what they’ve learned immediately using Docker, VMs, or the Cloud.
• Expertise Transfer: Stay at the cutting edge of technology. Test new major releases and features early on to integrate them into the curriculum.

Qualifications

• Senior PostgreSQL DBA: Years of experience in administration, tuning, and integration. Knowledge of maintaining instances in various environments.
• Didactics & Passion: Ability to structure technical topics clearly and enjoy sharing knowledge. Capable of motivating and guiding a group of "techies."
• Linux & Automation: Proficient with the shell and capable of automating lab environments (e.g., using Ansible or scripting).
• Languages: Fluent in German and English (written and spoken). Confident in conducting technical courses in both languages.
• Willingness to Travel: Appreciate the flexibility of your home office but comfortable traveling throughout Europe for on-site training sessions.

Nice to Have

• HA Expert: Ability to implement Patroni clusters and explain how they work during training.
• Backup Guru: Confident handling of core functionalities and pgBackRest (including S3/Azure/GCS backends).
• Performance Analyst: Mastery of EXPLAIN ANALYZE, understanding the significance of Wait Events, and guiding participants through complex query plans.
• System Know-how: Understanding of file systems, storage I/O, and kernel tuning under Linux.

Soft Skills

• The "Explainer" Gene: Patience and ability to break down complex PostgreSQL internals for both Junior Admins and experienced Senior DBAs.
• Reading the Room: Ability to notice when the class is losing focus and adapt pace and examples accordingly.
• Composure: Stay relaxed even when faced with specific edge-case questions. Know where to look for answers if unsure.
• Empathy for "Admin Pain": Understanding of the challenges faced by DBAs, enhancing credibility and addressing real pain points.
• Self-Management: Independently organize travel planning, lab environment preparation, and appointments.
• Feedback Culture: Ability to handle criticism and use participant feedback to improve course materials and teaching style.
