Role Description
The Peer Tutor provides academic support to undergraduate students by offering course-specific tutoring in subjects in which they have demonstrated strong academic performance. Peer Tutors work collaboratively with students to reinforce course content, develop effective study strategies, and promote independent learning. This position is designed for junior- or senior-level students who serve as positive academic role models while gaining professional experience in teaching, communication, and leadership.
This Federal Work Study position will support current students in the following ways:

Providing peer-to-peer academic assistance in specific courses

Reinforcing understanding of course content and key concepts

Promoting effective study strategies and independent learning skills

Increasing student confidence, persistence, and academic success
In addition, this position will complement and reinforce a Federal Work Study studentβs educational program or vocational goals in the following ways:

Strengthening subject-matter knowledge through review and application of course content

Developing communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills applicable to a wide range of careers

Providing experience in teaching, mentoring, and collaborative problem-solving

Encouraging responsibility, professionalism, and effective time management
Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions for Fashion 100. Tutor must have earned a grade B or higher in Fashion 100.

Assist students with understanding course concepts, assignments, and exam preparation while encouraging independent problem-solving

Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and confidentiality in all tutoring interactions

Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing course materials and coordinating with students as needed

Accurately track tutoring hours and complete required Federal Work-Study documentation

Communicate regularly with the tutoring coordinator or supervising staff regarding student progress, scheduling, and concerns

Participate in required training sessions

Uphold institutional academic integrity policies
Qualifications

Must be a junior or senior or graduate student in the assigned program
-
Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Must have passed the class for which they are tutoring with a B or higher

Pay Rate: $19.18 per hour

Work Schedule: Approximately 6 hours/week*

Federal Work Study schedules can work up to 20 hours per week*

Federal Work Study work schedules may not conflict with the student's class schedule.

Length of Employment: The student's third year at Academy of Art University through graduation.
