[Hiring] Part-Time Lecturer in Classical Reception @University of Pittsburgh

Role Description

The Classics Department at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a lecturer for one 3-credit section of CLASSICS 1185: SCIENCE FICTION & THE ANCIENTS.

• Applicants should approach ancient literature and classical reception through a lens of science fiction studies.
• The successful candidate's scholarly interests and experience will include:
  • A focus on the literary study of ancient and modern texts.
  • The intellectual history of scientific and political philosophy.
  • Specific emphasis on the reception of ancient art and literature in modern science fiction and African American literature.
• Required qualifications include:
  • An MA in Classics or a related field at the time of hire.
  • Experience in teaching or supporting this or a similar course in the American post-secondary system.
• The appointment is for the summer semester, June 15, 2026, through August 15, 2026.
• This class will be taught remotely.
• Review of application materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
