Role Description
The Classics Department at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a lecturer for one 3-credit section of CLASSICS 1185: SCIENCE FICTION & THE ANCIENTS.

Applicants should approach ancient literature and classical reception through a lens of science fiction studies.

The successful candidate's scholarly interests and experience will include:

A focus on the literary study of ancient and modern texts.

The intellectual history of scientific and political philosophy.
-
Specific emphasis on the reception of ancient art and literature in modern science fiction and African American literature.

Required qualifications include:
-
An MA in Classics or a related field at the time of hire.
-
Experience in teaching or supporting this or a similar course in the American post-secondary system.

The appointment is for the summer semester, June 15, 2026, through August 15, 2026.

This class will be taught remotely.
