Role Description
To provide classroom and lab instruction in the Fire Protection Technology program for the college.
Receives general supervision and technical direction from the Fire and Rescue program director. Exercises no supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and participate in the instruction for the Fire Protection Technology program.

Develop supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.

Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Fire Protection Technology program including curriculum development and instructional coordination.

Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.

Assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships.

Identify opportunities for improvement and review with the department chair.

Develop and draft materials necessary for instruction with the direction and approval of the program director.

Assess material, supply, and equipment needs for the Fire Protection Technology program; submit requests for the ordering of supplies to the program director.

Help maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.

Participate in the academic program efforts to recruit and retain students.

Coordinate the development, review, and revision of program publications, publicity, and other community relations activities.

Work with industry partners and faculty to ensure our programs are teaching the most up-to-date techniques and the latest industry trends.

Coordinate activities with student services in the implementation of CFCC Fire Protection Technology admission, progression, and graduation policies.

Ensure adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis, and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs.

Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Knowledge of principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.

Knowledge of principles and practices of curriculum development and instructional strategies.

Knowledge of current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.

Ability to interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

Ability to analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.

Ability to effectively direct the provisions of the academic area to which they are assigned in support of the college programs.

Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others, operating assigned equipment, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment, handling varied tasks simultaneously, and bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds.

Ability to maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of making sound decisions, responding to questions, and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Requirements

Minimum Education/Training: Bachelorโs degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience: Two years of relevant experience in Fire Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge in course content and effective in teaching topic courses and capable through academic preparation, training, and experience to teach the courses assigned.

Preferred Experience: Masterโs degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Preferred North Carolina and/or IFSAC Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I & II, and Fire Officer I & II certifications.

Experience in post-secondary instruction, including experience with Canvas and online teaching tools.
