Role Description

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) is seeking an experienced instructor for Project LAW, a grant-funded pre-law pipeline program. The instructor will teach a fully online, four-week Legal Writing and Reasoning workshop, focusing on:

• Foundational legal analysis and writing skills using the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) framework.
• Public interest caselaw and identifying legal issues.
• Applying legal rules to facts and communicating legal reasoning effectively.

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching two live online 90-minute classes per week over four weeks.
• Facilitating virtual class discussions and interactive exercises.
• Reviewing student assignments and providing feedback.
• Completing associated preparation and review activities.
• Creating course materials (lessons, PowerPoints, LMS modules, assignments, etc.).
• Holding live virtual classes that include discussions, exercises, and collaborative learning activities.
• Monitoring student engagement and communicating concerns regarding attendance or participation to program staff.
• Utilizing online instructional technologies, learning management systems, and video conferencing platforms.
• Maintaining regular communication with students regarding assignments, expectations, and course activities.
• Collaborating with Project LAW staff regarding course administration and student progress.
• Attending brief planning and debrief meetings with program staff as needed.
• Maintaining accurate records of attendance, student participation, and assignment completion.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.

Requirements

• Experience teaching legal writing, legal reasoning, or related subjects.
• Ability to make complex legal concepts accessible to students with limited prior exposure to legal education.

Benefits

• Pay Range: $88.77 per hour; Total Compensation: $4,260.96.
