Role Description

The K-5 Reading Specialist is responsible for providing high-quality, specialized instruction to students eligible for Title One Reading support with diverse learning needs in the GCVS virtual environment. This role focuses on implementing evidence-based literacy instruction and interventions, administering progress monitoring, and collecting student data. The teacher works collaboratively with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support student growth, wellness, and academic achievement.

• Deliver instruction and interventions based on the Science of Reading, structured literacy practices, and the developmental progression of reading acquisition, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Conduct literacy assessments, such as DIBELS, analyze student data, and provide quarterly progress reports.
• Adjust teaching strategies based on individual student performance and assessments.
• Attend IEP and 504 meetings; participate in the MTSS/Student Support meetings.
• Utilize approved platforms to teach and support students in inclusive settings.
• Monitor student milestones and challenges.
• Engage in professional development.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts license as a Reading Specialist.
• 5 years of teaching experience preferred, with specific experience as a Reading teacher.
• Familiarity with eSped, PowerSchool, Google Suite, and various teaching tools.

Requirements

• Applicants residing in the Massachusetts area are strongly preferred.
• Ability to travel to locations across the state and attend GCVS events as needed.
