Role Description

The Interventionist, Math 9–12 will be responsible for delivering targeted, data-driven mathematics intervention to students in grades 9–12 who require additional academic support. This position partners closely with teachers and school leaders to identify learning gaps, implement evidence-based mathematics intervention strategies, monitor student progress, and help accelerate academic growth through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

Essential Duties

  • Student Intervention and Instruction
    • Deliver high-quality, small-group and individualized mathematics intervention aligned with student needs, graduation requirements, and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
    • Provide targeted instruction in foundational and grade-level mathematics concepts using evidence-based intervention strategies to improve conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills.
    • Differentiate instruction to address varying skill levels, learning needs, and academic goals.
    • Utilize virtual learning platforms and instructional technology to engage students in a remote learning environment.
    • Foster positive relationships with students while creating an encouraging and supportive learning environment that builds confidence and mathematical perseverance.
  • Progress Monitoring
    • Analyze assessment, benchmark, and progress monitoring data to identify students requiring intervention and adjust instructional plans accordingly.
    • Monitor student growth through ongoing formative and summative assessments.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of intervention services, student progress, and instructional adjustments.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies and recommend modifications to improve student outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Student Support
    • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, counselors, and support staff to align intervention with core mathematics instruction.
    • Participate in MTSS meetings and contribute student data to support instructional decision-making.
    • Communicate student progress and intervention recommendations with teachers, families, and school leadership as appropriate.
    • Support the implementation of school-wide mathematics intervention initiatives and best practices that promote college, career, and military readiness (CCMR).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience in secondary mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a virtual or online teaching environment is essential.
  • Strong understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Mathematics in grades 9–12.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based mathematics instructional practices that develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience administering, analyzing, and interpreting diagnostic, benchmark, and progress monitoring assessments to drive instructional decisions.
  • Ability to design, implement, and adjust individualized and small-group interventions based on student performance data.
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.
  • Familiarity with Texas high school graduation requirements, STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) assessments, and strategies for supporting students who are academically at risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff in a virtual environment.
  • Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels (Email, Google Chat, and Document Comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.
  • Access to a private, secure, high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for grades 9–12 Mathematics.
  • Mathematics Specialist, Special Education, ESL, or other intervention-related certification or endorsement preferred.
