Role Description

The High School English Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and standards-based instruction in English Language Arts, including literature, writing, grammar, and communication skills. The teacher fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a love of reading while supporting the academic and social development of all students.

Qualifications

  • South Carolina certification in Secondary English.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Familiar with educational technology tools.

Requirements

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Teach a variety of English courses, such as literature, composition, and language arts.
  • Develop studentsโ€™ reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and analytical skills.
  • Differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with varying abilities and backgrounds.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, tests, essays, and projects.

  • Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Incorporate technology and instructional strategies to enhance learning.

Working Environment

  • This role will be based at the employeeโ€™s home office with the expectation of regularly reporting to school sites and central office facilities to coordinate necessary services.
  • Work requires long periods of standing or walking around the classroom.
  • Requires clear verbal communication and strong listening skills.
  • May require projecting voice in noisy environments or large classrooms.
  • Use of hands to write on boards, type, handle classroom materials, and operate technology.
  • May include lifting or carrying instructional materials, textbooks, or student work (typically up to 20 lbs.).
  • Must be able to read and assess student work, view computer screens, and monitor student behavior visually.
  • Must be able to hear student questions and school announcements.
  • Repetitive actions like typing, grading papers, writing on boards.
  • Often sit for extended periods while planning lessons or grading but also stand or move frequently while teaching.
  • Work is primarily conducted indoors in classrooms, often with limited temperature control in older buildings.
  • Exposure to strong smells at times (e.g. markers, cleaning supplies, chalk, etc.).
  • Classrooms can be noisy during group work.
  • Standard school hours, but teachers often work before and after school for planning, grading, meetings, or extracurricular activities.
  • Evening or weekend work is common for lesson prep, grading, parent communication, or professional development.
  • Managing behavior, supporting diverse student needs, and maintaining classroom engagement.
  • Breaks are limited and structured around school schedules.
  • Constant interaction with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues.
  • Must manage interpersonal dynamics, conflicts, and communications in a professional and respectful way.

  • The district will conduct a criminal history background check.
