This course provides a broad understanding of counseling processes, including characteristics and behaviors that influence the helping processes:

• Age, gender, ethnic differences
• Verbal and nonverbal behaviors
• Personal characteristics and orientations

The development of counseling techniques is emphasized, including:

• Establishing and maintaining the counseling relationship
• Diagnosing and identifying the problem
• Formulating a preventative, treatment, or rehabilitative plan
• Facilitating appropriate interventions
• Successfully terminating the counseling relationship

What You Will Do:

• Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom
• Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes
• Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes
• Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in Counselor Education
• Independent licensure in counseling or a closely related field (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LCPC, or equivalent)
• OR Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or related counseling degree AND 5 years work experience as an Independent Licensed Counselor
• Maintain an active membership in a recognized counseling association
• Show evidence of experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Counseling advocacy
  • Research or other scholarly work
  • At least two years of clinical practice
  • Counselor education
