Role Description

We are looking for an experienced and DESE-approved SEI instructor to serve as the Director, Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Instructor. In this role, you will teach one to two 30-35 student sections of the DESE-approved SEI course to our 2026 corps members in the summer of 2026. You will be responsible for leading up to two virtual sections of the course per week and following up with corps members as needed. You will be responsible for grading assignments in accordance with DESE rubrics. The goal is to ensure that 100% of our 2026 corps members earn their Sheltered English Immersion endorsement at the end of the course. The courses will meet weekly from July 8 to September 23, with additional time for capstone presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Execution
    • Using DESE-provided course materials and the TFA summer calendar, create a plan to deliver the SEI course, in collaboration with the MA team.
    • Collaborate with TFAM to ensure all course materials, assignments, rubrics, etc., are on our Learning Management System (LMS).
    • Communicate course expectations, calendar, and procedures with corps members and the Massachusetts (MA) team.
    • Teach 1-2 virtual sections of the course per week.
    • Share makeup work and track progress for corps members.
    • Grade corps members' submissions (e.g., SIRs, capstone) using DESE provided rubrics and provide final grades for the course for all corps members.
    • Attend meetings with TFA staff to identify trends in learning and make adjustments where possible.
  • Systems Management and Logistics
    • Maintain attendance tracking and communicate attendance with TFA staff in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Email reminders to corps members with advance notice of meeting dates, times, agendas, and pre-work by the designated date.
    • Submit timesheets at the end of each month.
  • Collaboration with the Teach For America staff
    • Engage in responsive and ongoing communication with Teach For America staff.
    • Demonstrate dedication to continuously improving effectiveness.

A Week in the Life

  • Meeting with the TFAM SEI course lead to discuss the course and corps members’ progress.
  • Prepping for and teaching virtual section(s) of the course.
  • Grading the corps member's work and providing feedback.
  • Communicating with corps members and TFAM staff about corps member progress.

Qualifications

  • A pre-approved SEI Endorsement course instructor.

Bonus (Preferred Qualifications)

  • MA or CAGS in English as a Second Language.
  • Experience with virtual facilitation.
  • Experience supporting novice educators.
  • Fluency in a language other than English.
  • Knowledge of the WIDA standards and the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Exceptional ability to build and execute a project plan.
  • Ability to make timely decisions and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with others in challenging situations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to translate data into actionable solutions.

Your Future Team

You will sit on the Teach For America Massachusetts regional team and work closely with the Managing Director, Learning & Development Design and Training, and SMD, Program Strategy & Impact. In addition, you will collaborate with the MA Managing Directors of Leadership Development (MDLDs) who support our corps members. The goal of these teams is to ensure our 2026 corps members are committed, in community, and confident for their first day of school.

Compensation

The Director, SEI Instructor role is compensated at $44.52 per hour throughout the entire commitment, with an estimated time commitment of 130-150 hours per SEI section.
