Role Description

Responsible for supporting Spanish and English speaking families, regionally and statewide as needed. This is done through consumer engagement, instructional leadership, community engagement, administrative duties, reporting and recording.

Location Overview: North and West parts of the State such as Muncie, Fort Wayne, Elkhart, South Bend, Gary, Lafayette, Kokomo, Plainfield, North/West portion of Indianapolis, and surrounding areas.

Hours: 28 hours per week

Key Areas of Accountability

• Consumer Engagement
  • Provides individualized assistance or training to parents and professionals in Spanish and English.
  • Conducts outreach activities locally and supports teams/SELs with outreach targeting Spanish-speaking families.
  • Provides follow-up assistance and materials to individuals who attend training workshops.
  • Provides referrals, linkage, and other information to parents.
  • Recruits Spanish-speaking volunteers and maintains ongoing contact with Spanish-speaking volunteers.
• Instructional Leadership
  • Conducts the marketing, planning, implementation and evaluation of community training workshops in Spanish and English, with emphasis on relationship building and reaching underserved populations.
  • Schedules and facilitates volunteer training tailored to meet the specific needs of each volunteer.
• Community Engagement
  • Works collaboratively with staff to serve Spanish speaking communities across the state.
  • Participates in local special education and/or disability related activities or boards and committees.
  • Participates in agency related activities, including regional and statewide fairs/conferences.
• Reporting and Recording
  • Records activities and demographic information.
  • Collects and compiles on-site and follow-up evaluation data.
  • Reports and records information as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to fluently speak and translate both Spanish and English.
• Experience working directly with youth, individuals, and/or families with disabilities in a professional capacity is required.
• Knowledge of special education rules and regulations, early intervention, transition to adulthood is preferred.
• Experience in adult learning practices preferred.

Requirements

• Must be able to perform daily work in a variety of settings.
• Must have the ability to sit and stand in the same position for prolonged periods of time.
• Must have the ability to manage moderately stressful situations.
• Virtual and in-person engagement is required.
• Evening and weekend work is required occasionally as is travel within the state of Indiana.
• Equipment Operated: Phone, computer, printer/scanner/copier machine, and other office equipment. Presentation and virtual meeting software.

Training Requirements During Employment

• May receive additional computer training for software packages and other updates as necessary relating to program content and management, services configuration and delivery.
• Must attend annual in-service training.
