[Hiring] Assistant Teaching Professor of American Sign Language @Iowa State University

Role Description

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of American Sign Language (ASL). The successful candidate will:

• Develop and teach courses in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
• Be a motivated instructor who will contribute to departmental and institutional service.
• Have a courseload of 4 courses per year (49% FTE for remote teaching faculty), teaching two courses in the fall and two in the spring.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Initial appointment length is three years starting August 16, 2026. Renewal is possible based on performance and department need.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in ASL or a related area.
• Experience teaching sign language, interpreting, or related courses at a postsecondary institution.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to instruct upper-division language and content courses (preferred).
• Experience teaching both in-person and online courses at the undergraduate level (preferred).
