Role Description

The University of Northern Iowa’s School of Public Affairs and Service seeks applications for a temporary Assistant Adjunct Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice to teach the online three-credit course CRIM 3400 Police & Society, for the fall semester beginning August 24, 2026.

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching an online, asynchronous course.
• Studying the history, role, and function of police as a public service focused on reducing crime, protecting society, and achieving justice.
• Covering topics such as community relationships, analysis of factors influencing police effectiveness, and pressing issues challenging crime control in a democratic society.

This position is eligible to be performed remotely within the state of Iowa. Employees who elect remote work must comply with the requirements of our remote work policy and agreement.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related field.
• Experience teaching at the university level.

Requirements

• Previous teaching of a similar course in person or online.
• Practical experiences that demonstrate ability to create a dynamic and engaging online learning experience.
• Candidates are encouraged to describe in their cover letter how their previous online teaching experience and/or practical experience will lead to this kind of learning environment.
