Role Description

The Admissions Interviewer works within Enrollment Services and Student Operations (ESSO) and plays an important role in conducting interviews of prospective medical students and preparing interview summaries that assist in the holistic evaluation of each candidate. In this capacity, the Admissions Interviewer supports the School of Medicine’s mission to provide a diverse, multicultural, and international environment that empowers students to learn the medical knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behaviors to participate in healthcare delivery to people across the world. The Admissions Interviewer works collaboratively as part of the Interview Team to conduct interviews based on the range of application volume that occurs throughout the year. This role reports to the Director, Interview Program.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare for, conduct, and summarize admission interviews across various world regions.
  • Assess each applicant on the desired attributes of an SGU medical student utilizing guidelines provided by the Interview Program.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, cultural awareness, active listening, and thoughtful written communication when conducting interviews and preparing summaries.
  • Attend bi-weekly or monthly professional development sessions as required.
  • Review and incorporate guidelines from newsletters and other resources provided by the Interview Program.
  • Submit timely interview summary reports and respond in a timely manner to Interview Program inquiries.
  • Be a positive contributor to a collegial, supportive, student-centered environment.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the dedication, resilience, and academic rigor necessary to succeed in a graduate level health professions program.
  • Familiarity with the multi-dimensional skills sets needed to be a compassionate, caring, and outstanding physician.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interviewing and strong writing skills.
  • Commitment to conducting interviews and representing the Office in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Recognition of the strength and value of diversity and commitment to active listening, thoughtful, and open reflection for all students.

Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent such as, not but limited to: DO, DPM, PhD, EdD, DrPH, or similar.
  • Experience in healthcare or health professions education required.

Hours and Travel

  • Year-Round Part-Time Interviewers: Provide availability to conduct at least three (3) interviews per week throughout most weeks of the year.
  • Part-Time Interviewers will be required to provide set dates and times (in one-hour increments) for their availability from which applicants may choose to book an interview.
  • Available for night/weekend interviews required.
  • Available to participate in professional development sessions throughout the year.
  • Recertification process occurs every eighteen months.
  • Seasonal Part-Time Interviewers: Provide availability for three (3) interviews per week during peak timeframes throughout the year.
  • Peak interview timeframes typically occur in January, March/April, July/August and December.
  • Additional timeframes may be necessary dependent upon demand.
  • Available for night/weekend interviews required.
  • Available to participate in professional development sessions throughout the year.
  • Recertification process occurs every eighteen months.
  • Full-Time Interviewers: Conduct on average five (5) interviews per business day.
  • Professional development sessions typically occur once or twice a month for an additional 1 – 3 hours each month.
  • Most interviews will be conducted virtually with the possibility for occasional in-person interviews.
  • Evening and weekend hours required.

Location

This position is a remote position, with occasional in-person interviews as needed.
