Role Description

The Academic Program Director leads strategic planning, program maintenance and assessment, and curriculum development of an/the identified and appropriate program(s). Furthermore, the Academic Program Director leads faculty to meet or exceed expectations, resolve academic issues, and build a community among faculty and staff. The director is responsible for the courses and programs that align with the assigned program and contributes to maintaining alignment with applicable accreditation, regulatory, and compliance expectations.

  • Provides direct supervision and evaluation of Lead Faculty and oversees supervision and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty and conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates disciplinary actions, as necessary, with Human Resources.
  • Coordinates all strategic planning activities in assigned areas.
  • Leads the development, review, and assessment of all Course Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Conducts annual Academic Program Review(s).
  • Establishes and maintains membership of Advisory Board(s) and leads Board review of all aspects of academic program(s) for relevancy in the profession in which students are preparing to enter.
  • Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities, including contributing to program documentation, tracking, and reporting required for internal and external review processes.
  • Maintains awareness of accreditation and regulatory expectations and assists in ensuring programs remain aligned with applicable standards.
  • Guides curriculum review and development by identifying courses in need of revision and working with Curriculum Development on selecting course writers, evaluating and giving final approval of new and revised courses along with clock hour reviews.
  • Promotes, maintains and enhances workplace culture within the Academic Affairs department and university.
  • Participates in scheduled remote meetings, University training sessions, and faculty development opportunities.
  • Participates in annual on-site commencement activities and any other on-site meeting required by the Academic Dean or Provost.
  • Completes projects and other assignments as directed by the Academic Dean.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of university guidelines, course descriptions, and academic terminology.
  • Knowledge of office administrative procedures including word processing, managing files and records, typing, and other office procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic computer processes including word processing, web browsing, and Microsoft Office including Basic Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of mathematics.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to look at different types of information in order to make conclusions and work through problems.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Locates key facts and information in order to learn more about different types of information.
  • Communicates and interacts with people effectively while being aware of social perceptions.
  • Manages one’s own time to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task ensuring all aspects are reviewed.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution required with at least 18 credit hours in applicable field of study.
  • Must have and maintain an active and unencumbered multistate RN license.
  • Previous academic administrative experience, accreditation knowledge, and teaching online at the university level, and a record of successfully engaging adult and/or nontraditional learners are highly preferred.

Outside Employment

Academic Program Directors must consider CSU as their primary employer and avoid additional part-time employment opportunities that distract from essential job duties and responsibilities. Other full-time employment of a competitive nature violates the employee policy on outside employment.
