[Hiring] Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer @MAIA

Role Description

We are looking for our first dedicated Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer to take technical ownership of our infrastructure and production operations. You will develop an existing platform and shape its next stage across architecture, automation, observability, security, and AI infrastructure. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role without people management.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking technical ownership of MAIA’s production infrastructure.
• Operating and evolving self-administered Linux systems across virtual machines and dedicated servers, including containers, networks, reverse proxies, and API gateways.
• Making deployments safe, repeatable, and easy for engineers to use.
• Improving our Infrastructure as Code, GitHub Actions workflows, deployment processes, automated checks, versioning, and rollback capabilities.
• Operating and improving PostgreSQL in production, including performance analysis, connection pooling, capacity planning, backups, and regularly tested restore procedures.
• Developing our self-hosted observability stack, connecting metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerts.
• Strengthening security across our infrastructure, implementing and maintaining IAM, least privilege, secrets management, TLS, vulnerability scanning, and patch management.
• Implementing technical controls for ISO 27001, ensuring evidence is generated continuously and remains understandable and auditable.
• Helping shape our AI infrastructure by integrating model and inference providers and evaluating them based on reliability, latency, throughput, cost, and operational effort.
• Improving incident response and operational resilience by investigating root causes, establishing useful runbooks, and documenting operational knowledge.
• Improving the internal developer experience by reducing manual work and creating clear interfaces and workflows.
• Making infrastructure and inference costs transparent by identifying relevant cost drivers.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience operating production SaaS systems on Linux servers.
• Experience operating Docker and Docker Compose in production.
• Practical experience operating PostgreSQL, including backups and restores.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or comparable systems.
• Managed infrastructure through Terraform, Pulumi, or comparable Infrastructure as Code tooling.
• Operated an observability stack using tools such as Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Sentry, or comparable technologies.
• Understanding of security foundations of production infrastructure.
• Fluent communication in English; German is helpful but not required.

Requirements

• Understanding of RAG systems and their common failures in production.
• Ability to discuss trade-offs in LLM serving, including latency, throughput, reliability, cost, and operational complexity.
• Strong platform engineering foundation and technical curiosity to develop expertise in AI infrastructure.
• Ability to take responsibility from initial investigation through production operation.
• Structured communication during incidents with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive communication in a distributed team.
