Role Description

EverOps is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer with deep AWS infrastructure experience, exceptional cloud networking expertise, and a proven ability to establish and scale mature infrastructure engineering practices. This role will be responsible for helping build and lead the engineering capability supporting customer deployments across new and existing AWS environments.

  • Establish the infrastructure foundations, security standards, deployment patterns, and operational practices necessary to deliver reliable, repeatable, and scalable customer infrastructure.
  • Operate within a business-critical environment where ensuring operational stability, strengthening security practices, reducing technical debt, and establishing scalable engineering standards are essential.
  • Evaluate existing engineering practices, establish standards, mentor engineers, and build processes that enable a growing team to operate effectively.
  • Quickly assess unfamiliar environments, work through ambiguity, and independently translate business and technical objectives into actionable engineering deliverables.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering, or a related discipline, with significant production AWS experience.
  • Deep hands-on experience designing, operating, securing, troubleshooting, and improving production workloads and infrastructure in AWS.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, subnetting, DNS, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, proxies, load balancers, security groups, network ACLs, and AWS networking services.
  • Experience designing and operating multi-account AWS environments, including AWS Organizations, account provisioning, cross-account access, centralized networking, and security governance.
  • Experience building and maintaining infrastructure platforms that support repeatable application and customer deployments across multiple environments.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, establishing engineering standards, and coordinating infrastructure delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of AWS security best practices, IAM, least-privilege access, network security, encryption, secrets management, infrastructure hardening, and secure configuration management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Terraform and experience managing production infrastructure through version-controlled IaC.
  • Strong Linux systems administration, security hardening, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Production experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms such as ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience designing, securing, and operating modern CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, or similar platforms.
  • Experience implementing and improving monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting, and operational visibility using platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or comparable tooling.
  • Strong scripting ability using Python, Bash, or similar languages to automate infrastructure, security, and operational workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to enter an unfamiliar environment, independently assess its current state, identify priorities, define a path forward, and execute with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and recommendations to engineers, technical leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Help build and develop an infrastructure engineering team, establishing technical expectations, mentoring engineers, and creating repeatable processes.
  • Design, provision, and maintain secure, scalable AWS account structures, landing zones, networking foundations, access controls, and infrastructure provisioning workflows.
  • Partner with application and customer engineering teams to provision, configure, and maintain infrastructure supporting customer deployments.
  • Develop reusable Terraform modules, infrastructure templates, deployment patterns, and engineering standards.
  • Assess existing DevOps practices, infrastructure management, operational procedures, and engineering workflows to identify gaps and implement improvements.
  • Evaluate and improve cloud security posture through infrastructure hardening, least-privilege access, IAM best practices, and secure configurations.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support for the migration and modernization of production workloads from legacy hosted infrastructure into AWS.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex connectivity, routing, DNS, firewall, VPN, load-balancing, and hybrid-networking issues.
  • Assess undocumented or partially documented environments, identify dependencies and blockers, and translate findings into practical migration plans.
  • Design, build, troubleshoot, secure, and improve production AWS environments using modern infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Identify and remediate risks associated with legacy infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Implement and improve CI/CD, monitoring, observability, secrets management, configuration management, and deployment automation.
  • Design and implement AWS-based disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain standards for infrastructure monitoring, deployment validation, change management, incident response, and ongoing operational reliability.
  • Support migration rehearsals, rollback planning, production cutovers, validation, and post-migration stabilization.
  • Independently define and execute technical deliverables, surface risks early, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Produce useful architecture documentation, infrastructure standards, migration plans, operational runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials.
  • Serve as a senior technical partner to customer engineers and EverOps team members.

Benefits

  • 100% Remote Workplace: We've been remote since Day 1!
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off.
  • Equity: Become a true owner of the company.
  • 401K with company contribution and sponsored healthcare.
  • Access to training and certification programs to accelerate your career.
