[Hiring] Federal Platform Engineer @Horizon3

Role Description

We are looking for a Federal Platform Engineer to help lead the deployment and operation of our product infrastructure in multiple federal environments ranging from FedRAMP through Classified workloads. Your goal will be to help build, maintain and improve our platform running in AWS. Your expertise in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and tools like Terraform, Ansible, and GitLab CI will be essential in creating scalable and secure systems that enable innovative experimentation. Essential Functions

• Implement highly scalable, secure, resilient cloud-native application platforms that host core company applications, toolings, and other services vital to enabling our product to perform in all AWS regions where we are deployed.
• Identify, design, and deploy improvements in development and deployment processes so engineers can begin deploying anytime with confidence.
• Design and implement tooling for the internal platform to collect telemetry data used to gauge its effectiveness in supporting H3's engineers.
• Help create an effective documentation culture within the Engineering Organization (Confluence, Documentation as code).
• Participate in effective project management and work allocation (Jira, Agile Concepts).
• Create Terraform modules and Crossplane compositions that are easily consumed by all of engineering.
• Be a positive example of automation for infrastructure-as-code, platform operations, and overall CI/CD methodologies.
• Evaluate new technologies and patterns for automation, application hosting, and improving infrastructure provisioning. Recommend and define the work needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform engineering, or related roles.
• Ability to manage concurrent initiatives and use effective judgment in prioritization and time management.
• Creative, self-motivated, pragmatic, disciplined, detail and results oriented.
• Excellent analytical/problem solving ability.
• Strong understanding and experience with solution design and flow.
• Strong technical documentation and communication.

• Experience using Claude Code or other AI-enabled development tooling.
• GitLab CI/CD.
• Argo Events, Argo Workflows, Argo CD.
• SSO (OIDC, SAML, Okta, Social Sign-ins).
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Crossplane).
• Secret Management (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secret Manager, External Secrets Operator).
• Configuration Management (Ansible).
• Shell Scripting.
• Programming Languages (GoLang required, Python a plus).
• Container Engines (Docker).
• Kubernetes (RKE2, K3S, EKS).
• Logging and Metrics (Datadog, OpenSearch).

Cloud Technologies

• AWS Core Services.
• Compute (EC2, Lambda, EKS).
• Storage (S3, EBS).
• Database (AuroraRDS - Postgres).
• Networking (VPC, VPCe, RT53).
• Event-Driven Architecture (SQS, EventBus).
• Security (IAM Roles and Policies, KMS, CloudTrail).
• User Management (Cognito, Organizations, SSO).

Education

• Bachelors in Computer Science or STEM or equivalent experience.
• MS in Computer Science a plus.

Citizenship/Clearance

• US Citizen Required.
• Possess or ability to gain and maintain Top Secret security clearance required.

Nice to Haves

• Experience in FedRAMP, CC SRG, NIST 800-53, or Authority to Operate (ATO) process.

Travel Required

We are a fully remote company, and this job may require up to 5% of travel to be successful. Job-related travel expenses are reviewed and must be approved by your manager.

Compensation Disclosure

In accordance with various State’s transparency regulations, we provide the following salary range information for this position:

• Base salary range: $199,750 to $230,000 annually. The exact salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s location, qualifications, experience, and relevant skills.
• Additional compensation: This role may also be eligible for performance bonuses, equity options, and other benefits which will be discussed during the interview process.
