Role Description
Focuses inward to ensure strategic visions are operationalized, delivered, and continuously improved through world-class DevOps, developer tooling, and platform operations.
-
Owns DevOps (platform reliability, release operations, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing and deployment enablement).
-
Owns development tooling including JIRA, JellyFish, CI/CD toolchain, and internal tools that accelerate AI adoption in the SDLC.
-
Owns engineering metrics & telemetry to measure delivery performance, quality, and operational health.
-
Owns cloud cost effectiveness (FinOps) across hosting, usage, and optimization, partnering with IT Operations and Engineering leaders.
-
Partners closely with IT Operations and IT Development as a key member of the technology leadership team, improving engineering velocity, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
Qualifications
-
Builder-Operator: A senior level leader who prefers the โhowโ and can translate strategy into durable operating mechanisms, standards, and automation.
-
DevOps & Tooling Depth: Proven ownership of CI/CD platforms and development tooling (e.g., work management systems like JIRA, engineering analytics like JellyFish, and internal productivity tools).
-
AI Enablement in the SDLC: Experience operationalizing AI-assisted development with measurable adoption, workflow integration, and appropriate governance.
-
Cloud FinOps Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead hosting cost reduction programs, build cost transparency, and partner with teams to improve cost effectiveness without sacrificing reliability.
-
Metrics-Driven Execution: Comfort building engineering performance telemetry and using it to drive decisions, prioritization, and continuous improvement across squads.
-
Collaborative Leader: Strong partner to IT Operations and IT Development; able to influence across the technology leadership team to improve velocity and readiness for future growth.
Requirements
-
CI/CD Pipeline Maturity: Standardize and accelerate the path to production. Own the roadmap for automated testing, deployment, and infrastructure-as-code to increase release velocity and reduce change failure rate.
-
Development Tooling Ownership: Own and continuously improve the toolchain that enables predictable deliveryโJIRA administration/governance, JellyFish engineering analytics, and internal engineering tools (including AI enablement workflows).
-
Developer Experience (DevEx): Reduce cognitive load for engineers by automating repetitive tasks, providing self-service workflows, and streamlining onboarding, environments, and build/deploy ergonomics.
-
AI Integration: Operationalize AI in the development lifecycle, including rollout of AI-assisted coding tools and integrating LLM capabilities into internal engineering workflows with measurable adoption and safety controls.
-
Cost Optimization: Drive a rigorous cloud cost-reduction program (strategic hosting cost reduction). Identify waste, right-size infrastructure, improve commitment coverage, and implement automated scaling and guardrails to keep the footprint lean.
-
Visibility & Reporting: Build and maintain interactive dashboards that provide real-time visibility into cloud spend and engineering performance, transitioning from legacy/static reporting to actionable telemetry.
-
Cost Effectiveness by Design: Partner with squads and architecture to embed cost-aware design patterns and runbooks into CI/CD, platform standards, and operational practices.
-
Process Standardization (by squad): Establish and enforce consistent engineering standards (definition of done, branching/release practices, quality gates, change management) so improvements scale across the organization.
-
Engineering Performance Telemetry: Define, instrument, and operationalize application and delivery telemetry (e.g., DORA-style metrics, defect leakage, availability, latency, SLO/SLA adherence) with clear accountability and regular business reviews.
-
Integration & Enablement: Partner with IT Operations, IT Development, and vendors/partners to ensure teams are integrated into CI/CD, security protocols, and platform standards.
-
OKRs (Success Measures): Deliver measurable cloud/hosting cost reduction through optimization, right-sizing, and guardrails; improved unit economics and spend predictability.
Benefits
-
Roll out AI-assisted development capabilities; track adoption and productivity impact; establish governance and safe-use patterns.
-
Increase number of deployments and reduce lead time for changes through CI/CD maturity and standardized pipelines.
-
Reduce defect leakage to production via automated testing, quality gates, and consistent release practices.
-
Define and publish a consistent performance scorecard (delivery, reliability, cost) with dashboards and regular reviews.
-
Adoption of standard SDLC/DevOps practices across squads with measurable compliance and outcomes.
-
Increase coverage and quality of application telemetry (logs/metrics/traces), SLOs, and operational readiness across services.
