[Hiring] DevOps / Platform engineer @Return

Role Description

Return is hiring a DevOps engineer who will build and run the infrastructure behind platforms that accelerate the transition to carbon-free energy. Your primary focus will be to design, automate, and operate the infrastructure that our virtual battery platform runs on.

• Build and operate industrial-size Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Work with EU-only cloud providers for application workloads.
• Manage hardened on-premise setups at battery sites.
• Ensure connectivity between cloud and on-site infrastructure.
• Make decisions on deployment and maintain uptime and security.

Qualifications

• Strong opinions on cloud and self-hosted environments.
• Practical and fast approach to solutions.
• Comfortable with security practices, including threat modeling and audit logging.
• Experience with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure-as-code and configuration management.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes is welcome but not required.
• Comfortable with PostgreSQL operations, including HA and replication.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.
• Linux sysadmin fundamentals and networking knowledge.
• Proficiency in coding (Bash and Python at minimum; Go is a plus).

Requirements

• Experience with industrial protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus) is a bonus.
• Ability to work remotely within the EU.
• Willingness to travel to battery sites and operations centers as needed.
