Role Description

Nemours is seeking a Technical Data Analyst. This position is responsible for performing advanced, investigative analysis of data at or near the source-system level to support Audit and Compliance for operational and strategic needs across the organization. The Technical Data Analyst works directly with raw and low-level data, developing a deep understanding of source systems, data structures, table relationships, transformations, and business rules that govern how data is created and flows across systems. The role is accountable for converting complex or ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches and producing accurate, defensible datasets and findings.

This role is distinguished by its emphasis on deep data interrogation and structural understanding. The Technical Data Analyst digs into low-level data and works beyond curated data marts or predefined reporting layers to investigate anomalies, exceptions, edge cases, and inconsistencies. This includes interpreting data lineage, understanding how upstream processes impact downstream outputs, and reconciling differences between systems, definitions, and reported results. The analyst frequently prepares single-use or purpose-built datasets to support investigations, audits, research efforts, and complex operational inquiries that cannot be resolved through standard reports or dashboards.

Unlike roles focused primarily on dashboard development, standardized reporting, or data visualization, this position is not centered on producing recurring reports or storytelling artifacts from curated datasets. The Technical Data Analyst operates as a bridge between raw/source data and business-facing analytics, ensuring that downstream reporting, analysis, and decision-making are grounded in accurate interpretation of source system behavior. This role is distinct from data science functions and does not primarily focus on statistical modeling, predictive analytics, or algorithm development. Instead, the Technical Data Analyst specializes in understanding how the data actually works, ensuring that analyses are grounded in accurate interpretation of source systems.

Essential Functions

• Query, extract, and analyze data from source systems, data warehouses, and complex relational databases, utilizing advanced SQL and analytical scripting tools, data structures, and data relationships to produce accurate analytical outputs.
• Investigate and interpret data lineage, transformations, and business rules across systems to ensure that analytical results accurately reflect operational and system behavior.
• Develop custom, one-time or iterative analytical datasets to support audits, compliance reviews, operational investigations, and other business inquiries that cannot be answered through standard dashboards or existing reporting solutions.
• Perform detailed validation and reconciliation of data, including identifying anomalies, inconsistencies, or control gaps, and ensuring that outputs are complete, accurate, and defensible.
• Translate ambiguous or complex business questions into structured analytical approaches, including identifying appropriate data sources, defining logic, and understanding assumptions and limitations.
• Document data sources, transformation logic, validation methods, and analytical processes to support transparency, repeatability, and auditability of results.
• Collaborate daily with other analysts, audit, compliance, operational, and technical teams to understand data needs, explain data behavior, and provide insight into how data should be interpreted and used.
• Identify data quality issues, inconsistencies in definitions, or gaps in data capture processes, and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders to support data integrity improvements.
• Build and leverage use of reusable queries, scripts, and analytical approaches where appropriate, while recognizing that the role is primarily focused on investigative and exploratory analysis rather than standardized reporting.
• Clearly communicate analytical findings, including methodology, assumptions, and limitations, to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
• Perform special projects as requested by the SVP, Audit Services.
• Develop relationships with Nemours Associates that creates favorable reception for, and good understanding of, the Audit Services and Compliance functions while remaining independent and objective.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Degree related to sciences, coding, software engineering, business, preferred.
• Certificates in SQL, data analysis or related fields preferred.
• More than 5 years experience; May consider 3 to 5 years if experience and candidate knowledge and attributes align with position and team culture.
