[Hiring] Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering @Carrum Health

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering to help us turn the data that runs our business into a platform anyone at Carrum can trust and use. The Senior Manager will play a critical role in our success.

Reporting to the Director of AI & Analytics Engineering , you will own our dbt data mart, the semantic layer on top of it, and the client-facing exports the business runs on. You'll be responsible for the standard of that work and the growth of the team producing it — and for the modeling, metadata, and guardrails that let anyone at Carrum get a trustworthy answer without writing SQL.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

• Own data the business depends on: Take accountability for client exports, the dbt data mart, and the semantic layer above them, where reliability is a commercial outcome rather than a hygiene metric.
• Lead and build the team: Coach and develop analytics engineers, shape how the team works, and hire as we grow.
• Set the standard for the craft: Define what "done" means at Carrum — grain definitions, testing, freshness checks, documentation, and ownership metadata — then review against it and hold the line.
• Make reliability a discipline: Build the monitoring, testing, and ownership model that lets the team catch issues before stakeholders do — and design systems that stay dependable as the team and the business scale.
• Make AI self-service real: Treat Hex as a product, not a tool. Build the semantic layer, guardrails, and PHI controls that let anyone at Carrum query the warehouse in natural language and trust the answer.
• Modernize the stack: Support the Databricks migration to completion — setting direction and clearing obstacles without taking the design away from the engineer leading it.
• Be the front door: Translate ambiguous requests from Finance, Client Success, and Operations into scoped work, and push back when the ask isn't the real need.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years in analytics engineering or a closely related data role, with 2+ years managing.
• Advanced hands-on experience with dbt, including defensible opinions on project structure, testing, documentation, and modularity.
• Experience raising a team's bar through code review, process, and clear expectations.
• Experience owning an operational data surface with monitoring and dependable processes.
• Experience with a BI tool like Hex, focusing on semantic layer health and cross-team model standards.
• Deep experience with cloud data warehousing (Azure, Athena, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.) and cost minimization.
• Comfortable with a startup's pace, proactively seeking out high-value problems.
• Knowledge of the healthcare tech industry and/or medical/pharmacy claims is a strong plus (bonus).

• Ability to lead analytics engineers while still writing code.
• Experience with operational data surfaces where late or wrong data had consequences.
• Experience with cloud data warehousing and platform migration.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and a fast-paced environment.
