Role Description

The Sr. Data Analyst will use claims data to provide insight into business performance. Responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing variances in loss results compared to plan.
  • Identifying and communicating potential areas for improvement within Claims or other functions.
  • Building out reporting analytics to provide quicker and more comprehensive insights.
  • Analysis may span any segment or line of business across the company.

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze claims data and effectively communicate conclusions in writing and verbally to internal partners (claims, actuarial, finance, state management, underwriting, etc.).
  • Draw insights and observations from detailed and multifaceted claims data and reports.
  • Present findings to senior leaders.
  • Respond to urgent/timely requests and produce routine and ad hoc information in a rapid and dynamic turnaround climate.
  • Lead the development or enhancement of complex reports and tools for multiple lines of business.
  • Work independently and leverage resources when needed.
  • Quantify the impacts of internal operational changes and external trends on frequency, severity, and overall loss results.
  • Develop industry knowledge and internal data expertise to provide solutions to complex business questions.
  • Work in partnership with the team and management to generate innovative solutions by approaching problems with curiosity and open-mindedness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field (math, finance, actuarial science, or analytics preferred).
  • 4-6+ years of related analytical and property & casualty industry experience preferred (e.g. actuarial, business analytics, or finance).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to perform exploratory data analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and intermediate knowledge of SQL; ability to efficiently work with large and complex data sets.
  • Comfortable turning raw data into meaningful information; ability to summarize complex business concepts into written and oral communications (including the use of PowerPoint).
  • Comprehends key industry financial/operational metrics.
  • Strong organization, project, and time management skills; ability to multi-task and meet all deadlines with quality product.
