[Hiring] Manager, Data Engineering @Thumbtack

Role Description

Thumbtack's Data organization is responsible for the foundations of our marketplace data, including:

• The event taxonomy used across product surfaces
• The core entity models for requests, projects, pros, and customers
• The financial models that support company reporting

This team works at the intersection of financial data governance and rapid product iteration. Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering well-modeled, durable datasets for requests, projects, pros, and customers
• Partnering with Finance to ensure revenue models reconcile and are auditable
• Collaborating with Supply Acquisition and Business Platforms teams
• Raising the reliability floor on core pipelines
• Hiring and growing mid-level and senior data engineers
• Setting engineering standards for the team
• Leading as a technical manager, making and defending modeling and architecture decisions

Qualifications

• 2+ years managing engineers or experience as a tech lead ready to step into first-line management
• 6+ years building data or software systems in production
• Depth in SQL and dimensional and event modeling, and comfort in Python
• Experience owning datasets that other teams depend on
• Track record of translating ambiguous business questions into durable models and metric definitions
• Strong collaboration and written communication skills
• Commitment to building inclusive teams and team culture

Requirements

• Experience in code reviews and modeling design discussions
• Ability to work well with partner teams that have their own priorities

• Expected total cash compensation for candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros: $234,600.00 - $303,600.00
• Expected total cash compensation for candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros: $210,800.00 - $272,800.00
• Expected total cash compensation for candidates living in all other US locations: $199,800.00 - $258,500.00
