Role Description

The Senior Data Governance Specialist is an advanced subject matter expert, responsible for designing and developing the company's data infrastructure. This role will leverage skills and expertise to introduce new ideas and improve on existing solutions in line with established frameworks and governance. It plays an important part in how the organization shapes and performs data governance.

This role develops and implements data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to establish data governance best practices across the organization.

• Networks with various stakeholders to analyze data requirements, develop data models, and ensure the integrity and security of our data infrastructure.
• Accountable for defining how the data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and IT systems.
• Creates a data governance framework to meet business and technology requirements while ensuring data security and compliance with regulations.
• Works across multiple teams for the optimization of data storage and retrieval, enhance data quality and governance.
• Translates business requirements into databases, data warehouses, and data streams.
• Designs and implements data integration and data flow processes to ensure efficient data movement across different systems and platforms.
• Analyzes, plans, and defines data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.
• Defines and implements data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
• Facilitates data governance communities, workshops, and meetings.
• Analyzes existing data systems and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Defines and maintains data standards, data definitions, and data dictionaries.
• Defines technical standards and guidelines that pertain to data and information use, security, access, and governance.
• Defines a standard common business vocabulary and aligns with enterprise strategy and related business architecture.
• Creates diagrams showing key data entities and an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of data governance, data integration, data quality, data lifecycle processes, and data management best practices.
• Enterprise-wide view of the business and strong appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
• Advanced in preparing, facilitating, and driving forums, communities, workshops, and meetings.
• A capable change agent and communicator demonstrating the value of data governance.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members.
• Ability to build relationships and manage business partners at all levels of the organization.
• Specialist in developing communication and training materials.
• Strong understanding of IT domains of information, security, application, technology infrastructure, and integration.
• Problem-solving and analytical capabilities to safeguard data integrity and security.
• Strong understanding of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Strong understanding of data modelling techniques, data warehousing concepts, and database management systems.
• Advanced in SQL and experience with database development and performance optimization.
• Advanced specialist in data visualization tools and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Certifications in data management or related areas (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional) preferred.
• Advanced demonstrated experience working as a Data Governance Specialist or in a similar role.
• Advanced demonstrated experience in developing and implementing data governance strategies, frameworks, and operating models.
• Advanced demonstrated experience in developing training materials and conducting data governance workshops.
• Advanced demonstrated experience with data management tools and technologies.
• Advanced demonstrated experience in developing data governance frameworks, data dictionaries, data classification schemes, and data standards.
• Advanced demonstrated experience in ensuring data governance practices align with regulatory guidelines.
