Role Description

The Data Governance Analyst is an essential operational contributor on the Data Governance team, responsible for executing and sustaining governance practices across data quality, metadata, standards, and lifecycle management. This role provides the analytical depth and hands-on execution that keeps governance processes running reliably and data assets well-documented. The Analyst plays a pivotal role in identifying, investigating, and resolving data quality issues that affect the accuracy of Medicare Advantage operations.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

• Data Issue Analysis & Root Cause Resolution:
  • Investigate data inconsistencies, anomalies, and quality failures across enterprise systems and data pipelines.
  • Perform thorough root cause analysis to identify the source and scope of issues.
  • Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and collaborate with technical and business teams to drive timely resolution and prevent recurrence.
• Data Quality Lifecycle Support:
  • Support the definition, implementation, monitoring, and resolution of data quality rules and thresholds across key enterprise data domains.
  • Track quality metrics over time and prepare summary reporting for governance stakeholders.
  • Flag deteriorating trends that require escalation or intervention.
• Metadata & Documentation Management:
  • Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and currency of the enterprise data glossary, metadata catalog, and lineage documentation.
  • Partner with data stewards and platform teams to ensure new and modified data assets are cataloged consistently.
• Governance Lifecycle Tracking & Reporting:
  • Track governance issues, decisions, and action items through their full lifecycle.
  • Produce regular status reports and dashboards to keep governance leaders and business stakeholders informed.
• Data Integration & Validation Support:
  • Support the validation of data across integration, transformation, and enrichment processes.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure governance validation standards are applied consistently.
• Compliance & Regulatory Data Support:
  • Assist in ensuring that governed data assets meet HIPAA privacy requirements and CMS reporting standards.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory data requirements and flag governance gaps that could introduce compliance risk.

Qualifications

• Experience Required: 3–8 years of experience in data analysis, data governance, data quality management, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience working with both business and technical stakeholders on data-related challenges.
• Working knowledge of data quality, metadata, and documentation practices in an enterprise environment.
• Preferred:
  • Healthcare industry experience, particularly in a payer, managed care, or Medicare Advantage environment.
  • Exposure to data catalog, MDM, or data quality tools in a production setting.
  • Familiarity with CMS data requirements, HIPAA, or healthcare claims data structures.

Requirements

• Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Healthcare Informatics, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• Preferred: Advanced coursework or certification in data management, data analytics, or health informatics.
• Training Required:
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data querying, validation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA data handling requirements and basic data privacy principles.
• Preferred:
  • Exposure to enterprise data catalog platforms or data quality tools.
  • Introductory training in DAMA-DMBOK data management principles or equivalent governance framework.

Skills & Competencies

• Technical / Role-Specific Skills:
  • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, validation, comparison, and ad hoc analysis.
  • Ability to define, execute, and interpret data quality checks; experience identifying data anomalies.
  • Skill in maintaining data glossary entries, cataloging data assets, and documenting lineage.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to develop proficiency in enterprise data catalog or MDM tools.
  • General understanding of healthcare data structures relevant to Medicare Advantage operations.
  • Ability to synthesize data findings into clear governance status reports and quality dashboards.

Pay Range

$98,550.00 - $147,825.00. Pay range may be based on a number of factors including market location, education, responsibilities, experience, etc.
