Today - National Math Camps is hiring a remote Head of Camper Support & Family Engagement. πŸ’Έ Salary: usd 90,000 - 110,000 per year πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

The Head of Camper Support & Family Engagement serves as an in-house expert on working effectively with gifted and 2e students, and as a key connector between NMC and the families we serve. In this role, you will drive awareness of our programs and ensure that families feel welcomed, informed, and supported at every stage of their journey with us. You will also serve as the functional lead for Camper Support Directors β€” members of each camp’s leadership team who manage parent communications and act as the on-site experts and escalation points for camper social and emotional support, including behavior concerns, homesickness, conflict resolution, and accommodations.

This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in providing social, emotional, and behavioral support to children ages 8 - 18, including significant experience working with gifted and 2e students and their families. Success in this role requires an aptitude for and interest in marketing and customer service, but previous full-time experience in these areas is not required.

Please note: This is a remote role for most of the year but will require extensive travel during the summer months. Candidates should plan on traveling for work without PTO available between June 1st and July 31st.

Key Responsibilities

During the Academic Year (Mid-August to Mid-June):

  • Camper Support:
    • Serves as the in-house expert on working effectively with gifted and 2e students ages 8 - 18 both in and outside the classroom, including strategies for supporting camper mental health and managing challenging behaviors.
    • Ensures that camp schedule and expectations are developmentally appropriate for each age group.
    • Manages Camper Support staff, including Camper Support Directors, Associate/Assistant Camper Support Directors, and Camp Nurses.
    • Leads the hiring and training processes for all Camper Support staff.
    • Manages work assignments and ensures on-time completion.
    • Sets clear expectations and gives regular feedback, including post-camp performance reviews.
    • Develops, implements, and improves training and resources to prepare Camper Support staff for camp and to support their ongoing professional growth and development.
    • Leads the development, implementation, and refinement of camp policies, procedures, and resources related to behavioral management, incident reporting, parent communications, waivers, health & wellness, and youth protections.
  • Family Engagement:
    • Serves as the primary contact for interested, enrolled, and alumni families, providing timely, empathetic responses to their questions and concerns via phone and email.
    • Hires, trains, and manages seasonal customer service staff as needed to handle anticipated volume.
    • Leads the enrollment process, including following up with admitted families who have not yet enrolled, processing financial aid requests, ensuring all forms are received, running family information sessions, and providing regular email updates to enrolled families.
    • Plans pre-camp family engagement events and manages parent volunteers.
    • Partners with camp leadership to plan at-camp family engagement touchpoints such as the opening/closing ceremony, and parent mixer.
    • Attends conferences as a representative for NMC, speaking with prospective students and families; developing supporting marketing materials for outreach events as needed.
    • Owns and develops a strategy for grassroots outreach that drives enrollment and brand awareness through a variety of tactics, including but not limited to calls/emails, alumni activation, events, webinars, social media, and partnerships.
    • Owns and develops the overarching strategy for customer service and parent communication and engagement; keeps past attendees and their families engaged through year-round communication and programming.
    • Serves as the β€œvoice of the parent” within the core HQ team, advocating for parent and family needs across the student lifecycle.

During the Summer (Mid-June to Mid-August):

  • Provides oversight, coaching, and support to Camper Support Directors during camp, helping them problem-solve and ensuring a consistent, high-quality family experience in partnership with the Camp Director and Head of Camp Operations.
  • Spends significant time on-site at camp, providing oversight and direction, building strong relationships with staff, parents, and campers, and deepening their understanding of the camper and family experience.
  • Participates in the HQ on-call rotation, focused on supporting camp leadership with guidance and decision-making and responding to emergency situations.
  • Monitors incidents and parent communications across all camps.
  • Serves as an escalation resource for the most challenging student incidents and parent conversations.
  • Gathers photos, stories, and testimonials to support social media and marketing efforts.
  • As a rapidly growing organization, we expect this role to evolve over time β€” and we value team members who are eager to adapt, collaborate, and jump in wherever needed.

Qualifications

  • Background in social work, school counseling, child psychology, K-12 education or similar, with deep expertise in providing social, emotional, and behavioral support to children ages 8 - 18.
  • Significant experience working with gifted/twice-exceptional students and their families, and a strong understanding of the specific needs and unique concerns of this population.
  • Goal-oriented, with an aptitude for sales, marketing, and customer service. Previous full-time experience in these areas is not required.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships with parents, camp staff, and organizational partners.
  • Strong active listening skills, with the ability to handle the most challenging parent conversations with kindness and empathy.
  • Detail-oriented and reliable, with excellent organizational skills and follow-through on commitments.
  • Mission-driven, with a passion for immersive learning experiences, math education, and supporting extraordinary students.
  • Growth mindset, with openness to feedback and iteration as NMC scales.
  • Embraces the obligation to advocate on behalf of parents and campers; has the confidence to disagree with the founding leadership and/or Board and present cogent rationale for differences in opinion.
  • Flexible and collaborative, with a willingness to pitch in across different areas when needed.

Benefits

  • This is a US-based remote full-time position with occasional travel during the academic year to attend conferences and in-person retreats, and significant travel during the summer.
  • The salary range for this position is 90 - 110k, depending on experience.
  • The opportunity to build and shape a national organization from the ground up as part of the core HQ team.
  • Helping to propel amazing young people to the frontiers of math and science innovation.

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including professional development opportunities and flexible working arrangements.
