[Hiring] Global Patient Services Coordinator @Shriners Children's

Role Description

The Global Patient Services Coordinator supervises one or more Global Patient Services Specialists, ensuring accurate, efficient and compassionate handling of the entire international patient referral and acceptance process.

• Serve as program leads under the department’s 24/7 on-call schedule for the acute patient referral program.
• Oversee patient cases from initial referral until patients arrive at an SHC hospital.
• Receive incoming patient referrals from hospitals, Shriners, foundations, and other referral sources for patients with acute burns and other injuries.
• Determine best-fit Shriners hospitals based on patients’ conditions and bed availability.
• Prepare medical cases in English and establish doctor-to-doctor communication (interpreting as appropriate).
• Negotiate transportation timing, crews, equipment, and quotations with air ambulance providers.
• Manage humanitarian parole and consent processes and find/confirm financial sponsorships for patient transportation costs.
• Work closely with administrative and medical staff at Shriners Children’s locations for non-acute patients to facilitate patient acceptance, approvals, and care planning.
• Ensure comprehensive medical records and chart reviews with the International Clinical Professional.
• Responsible for successful patient passport and US visa applications and/or humanitarian parole requests.
• Identify and coordinate with external organizations and governments for non-medical expense sponsorship.
• Plan HQ-managed international outreach clinics held in assigned geographic regions, including patient selection and collaboration with host organizations.

Qualifications

• 7 or more years of professional-setting work experience.
• Professional-level written and verbal communication bilingual skills in English as well as either Spanish or French.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Medical terminology proficiency.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• BS, BA, or 4 years of college or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of case management experience in a healthcare setting (preferred).
• Social work or case management certification/license (preferred).
• Interpreter/translator certification (preferred).
