[Hiring] Compliance Officer - Conveyancing/Residential Property @Mallory Pryce

Role Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Compliance Officer specialising in conveyancing/ residential property to join an established property firm. The successful candidate will support the legal teams by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, firm procedures and best practice across residential property matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with fee earners, support staff and management to improve processes, deliver robust compliance oversight and contribute to a strong risk‑aware culture.

Location: Can be fully remote or hybrid.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and maintain compliance processes and controls for conveyancing and residential property transactions, ensuring adherence to SRA rules, anti‑money laundering (AML) regulations, data protection and internal procedures.
• Carry out regular file audits and compliance reviews of live and closed conveyancing matters; document findings, escalate issues appropriately and work with fee earners to implement remedial actions and lessons learned.
• Undertake client due diligence, verification and AML screening in line with firm policy; review and approve identification, source of funds checks, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) and sanctions screening and escalate suspicious activity reports where required.
• Support and maintain conflict of interest checks, risk assessments and matter opening/closing procedures; ensure accurate recording in the case management and document management systems.
• Provide practical compliance guidance and training to fee earners and support staff on conveyancing‑specific regulatory matters, precedents, AML obligations, SDLT reporting and Land Registry requirements where relevant.
• Assist with regulatory reporting, management information and preparation for external or internal audits; liaise with regulators, insurers and third parties as necessary.
• Act as a point of contact for compliance queries.

Qualifications

• Role would suit a Fee Earner who is looking to step out of Fee Earning to a compliance position. However, strong experience in fee earning or in compliance is key.
• Practical knowledge of AML regulations, client due diligence, PEP and sanctions screening, and reporting obligations; experience of preparing suspicious activity reports is desirable.
• Familiarity with residential property/conveyancing processes including Land Registry requirements and SDLT reporting is advantageous; able to apply regulatory requirements to conveyancing workflows.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills; able to manage multiple priorities, conduct thorough file reviews and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clear, pragmatic compliance advice to fee earners and stakeholders and to produce concise audit reports and guidance.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office and experienced with case management and document management systems; comfortable learning new systems and contributing to process improvements.
• Analytical and problem‑solving mindset with a collaborative approach; able to work independently and as part of a team to embed a positive compliance culture.
• Commitment to upholding regulatory and ethical standards including confidentiality, data protection and professional conduct; willingness to undertake relevant compliance training and qualifications.
