Role Description

We are looking for an experienced communications colleague to take on a fixed-term secondment as PR and Communications Manager, covering maternity leave. You'll be part of our PR and Communications team within the Marketing and Communications department.

This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience, develop your strategic communications skills and play a leading role in protecting and growing Scope's reputation. You'll work closely with senior leaders across the organisation, helping to shape how Scope is seen, heard and understood by our audiences.

Fixed term/secondment (maternity cover), full time (35 hours a week)

Location: Here East Press Centre, 14 East Bay Lane, London, E15 2GW and working from home.

As PR and Communications Manager, you will lead Scope's external communications, media relations and PR activity, while ensuring a joined-up approach to internal communications during major campaigns, organisational developments and high-profile or sensitive issues. You will provide strategic advice on messaging, reputation and risk, helping Scope communicate with clarity and confidence to both external and internal audiences.

• Lead the development and delivery of PR, media and communications plans.
• Advise senior leaders on communications, reputation and messaging.
• Lead responses to sensitive issues and reputational challenges.
• Support spokespeople with media preparation, briefings and advice.
• Strengthen Scope's media profile through proactive communications activity.
• Work closely with internal communications colleagues to ensure staff are informed and engaged during key organisational activity.
• Ensure consistent messages, narratives and tone across communications channels.
• Lead and support the communications team, helping create a collaborative and high-performing culture.
• Work closely with colleagues across Scope to ensure communications support organisational priorities.

Qualifications

• Experience communicating with a range of audiences and stakeholders.
• Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively across teams.
• Skill in writing clear, engaging and effective communications.
• Sound judgement when dealing with sensitive issues or competing priorities.
• Capability to influence, advise and support colleagues and stakeholders.
• Balance strategic thinking with practical delivery.
• Understanding of the importance of inclusive and accessible communications.
• Keen to learn, develop and take on new challenges.

Requirements

• Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Basic DBS check.
