Role Description

As Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer, you will lead TNTP’s external affairs function, shaping the organization’s narrative, brand, and strategic communications to advance enterprise priorities and measurable impact. In this role you will oversee integrated marketing, media, publications, campaigns, events, and internal communications initiatives that build national influence and galvanize support for redesigning education systems.

• Strategic Leadership & Organizational Impact
  • Design and oversee TNTP’s comprehensive external affairs strategy, galvanizing national support to redesign education systems.
  • Serve as TNTP’s chief narrative architect, ensuring clarity, coherence, and consistency in communications.
  • Direct executive communications strategy and execution, including speeches and high-stakes correspondence.
  • Represent TNTP as a senior external spokesperson in high-profile forums and media engagements.
  • Orchestrate alignment across divisions to ensure messaging advances enterprise priorities.
• Brand, Marketing, Thought Leadership, and Engagement
  • Ensure all positioning reflects a deep understanding of TNTP’s work, translating complex ideas into accessible narratives.
  • Direct teams responsible for brand strategy and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Oversee media strategy and partnerships to amplify organizational impact.
  • Lead strategy for high-profile events and public engagements.
  • Guide development of a publication and editorial agenda aligned to TNTP’s reputation.
  • Set strategic direction for innovative marketing solutions and digital campaigns.
• Internal Communications & Organizational Alignment
  • Own and execute an enterprise-wide internal communications strategy.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to ensure internal messaging supports effective change management.
• Team & Organizational Leadership
  • Build and lead high-performing teams across marketing and communications functions.
  • Develop senior leaders and emerging talent as effective communicators.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of senior leadership experience in communications, external affairs, marketing, or public affairs.
• Exceptional writing and narrative expertise.
• Proven ability to translate complex strategies into coherent narratives.
• Experience as a senior organizational spokesperson with strong media presence.
• Deep understanding of the K–12 education ecosystem.
• Strong track record building and leading integrated teams.
• Sophisticated understanding of brand stewardship and digital strategy.
• Demonstrated expertise in crisis communications and leading through change.

Requirements

• Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Benefits

• Salary range: $250,453 - $375,680, with starting salaries typically between $250,453 and $313,067.
