Role Description

As Staff AI Engineer, you are the technical leader and backbone of Cadre's Colombia engineering team. Your role involves:

• Mentoring and managing engineers, ensuring their growth and code quality.
• Setting the standard for team design, review, and delivery of AI systems.
• Staying hands-on with complex builds, including multi-step agent systems and document processing pipelines.
• Reporting to the Head of Client Engineering and occasionally joining client calls.
• Fostering an environment where leveling up the team is as rewarding as shipping systems.

What You'll Do

• Team Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Manage and mentor engineers on the Colombia team.
  • Set the engineering bar through rigorous code review and pairing.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for engineers facing challenges.
  • Build habits and practices that improve team performance quarter over quarter.
• Technical Direction:
  • Drive architecture decisions across client builds.
  • Evaluate new models and frameworks for production use.
  • Transform lessons from client builds into reusable internal tools.
• Build and Ship Production AI Systems:
  • Stay hands-on with complex client systems, owning delivery end to end.
  • Make pragmatic build decisions under real constraints.
  • Ship quickly without sacrificing reliability.
• Client Collaboration:
  • Join client calls to provide technical depth.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete system designs.
  • Flag risks and trade-offs early to protect outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years building LLM-powered systems in production.
• Demonstrated technical leadership with measurable impact on team growth.
• Expert-level Python and strong full-stack fundamentals.
• Production cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Deep knowledge of the modern AI stack.
• Track record of owning high-stakes projects end to end.
• Fluent English and clear communication skills.
• Consulting-environment adaptability.
• Based in Colombia with reliable overlap with US business hours.
