[Hiring] Applied Scientist @KoBold Metals

Role Description

In this role, you will develop state of the art instruments to collect data to guide our exploration programs. You will:

• Simulate, characterize, and calibrate sensor performance.
• Design new data acquisition systems.
• Work with vendors and partners to build hardware.
• Collaborate with operations staff to deploy hardware in the field.
• Build models using sensor data and other data sources.
• Apply scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to find evidence of ore-forming processes.
• Predict locations of ore-grade mineralization in 2D and 3D.
• Create a worldwide dataset for the exploration program.
• Identify and quantify uncertainty in data and predictions.
• Develop software to accelerate discovery of critical battery metals.
• Work closely with geoscientists to incorporate understanding of chemical and physical processes that create ore deposits.
• Identify new opportunities and technologies for geophysical data collection.
• Create 2D and 3D geologic predictions and identify exploration targets.
• Design field programs to collect data and reduce uncertainty in predictions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and synthesize complex information.
• Exceptional curiosity and eagerness to learn.
• Successful track record of developing complex equipment with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Technical skills, including extensive experience with:
  • Physical measurement and data analysis systems (optics, electromagnetism, radiation, gravity).
  • Applying scientific knowledge to identify and prototype emerging technologies.
  • Systems integration and data acquisition.
  • Python’s data science packages and general software engineering practices.
  • Collaborative software development (git) and familiarity with software engineering best practices.
  • SQL and familiarity with non-relational databases.
  • Cloud computing resources.
  • Building predictive models and evaluating results.
  • Data analysis, physics analysis, and applied statistics on various data types.
• Capacity to dive deep on novel problems in applying ML to mineral exploration.
• Experience deploying sensors in the field.

• Salary range: $125,000 - $235,000, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
