Role Description

Our Client is seeking an exceptional, highly technical AI Lead to architect, build, deploy, and institutionalize AI and automation capabilities across their practice. This is a builder role with strategic implications, designed for a full-stack engineering talent who possesses a solid operational understanding of accounting and finance. This professional functions as an internal innovation engine, sitting directly with CFOs, controllers, and advisory teams to dissect real-world workflows and build scalable software, integrations, and agentic AI systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Workflow Discovery & System Architecture:
  • Observes and collaborates directly with internal accounting, controller, and advisory teams to understand their authentic workflows before designing custom technical solutions.
  • Identifies high-leverage operational bottlenecks across practice areas and architects custom software, API integrations, and AI configurations to solve them.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership and external AI advisors to maintain a living product backlog of automation opportunities, active experiments, and scalable deployments.
• Hands-On AI Engineering & Tool Building:
  • Writes clean, maintainable code to ship internal tools, automated workflows, custom prompt architectures, and AI agent frameworks (utilizing Python, TypeScript, Claude, GPT-4, Cursor, n8n, etc.).
  • Integrates automated platforms seamlessly with core accounting environments (such as QuickBooks and practice management platforms).
  • Operates with technical rigor—documenting code, tracking adoption metrics, killing underperforming experiments, and converting one-off wins into repeatable systems.
• Internal Enablement & Client Impact:
  • Drives team-wide tool adoption, measuring personal success by active tool reliance rather than just code output.
  • Designs and conducts hands-on enablement workshops to elevate the technical capabilities of internal accounting and advisory teams.
  • Partners with fractional CFO teams to deploy AI-assisted operational models directly to clients where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a demonstrable codebase, GitHub repository, or portfolio showcasing tools built for non-technical users.
  • Advanced proficiency in a primary language stack (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript), API integrations, version control discipline, and a strong judgment for build vs. buy decisions.
  • Deep familiarity with modern AI development environments, LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI), Cursor, agentic workflows, and automation tools (n8n, Make, Zapier).
  • Working foundation in accounting and corporate finance (debits/credits, month-end close, financial statements) sufficient to understand problems presented by CFOs and controllers.
  • Proven track record of gathering requirements from non-technical stakeholders and building tools around their actual behaviors.
  • Elite, flawless written and verbal English communication skills suited for client-facing and team-facing leadership.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience building internal tools, automations, or software inside non-software enterprises (e.g., banks, insurance firms, corporate finance teams, or professional services agencies).
  • Direct technical experience integrating with QuickBooks, accounting practice management platforms, or fractional finance operating systems.
  • Prior experience operating autonomously in fast-moving, lean environments.
