[Hiring] Water Utility Locator @City of Aurora

Role Description

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join our team. Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems. The Water Service Locate team identifies and marks the City of Aurora’s infrastructure with accuracy in accordance with tier 1 requirements and state law.

• Use mobile tablet to receive, document, and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours.
• Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
• Effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel regarding underground facilities.
• Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches related to all locates completed.
• Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
• Operate company vehicle in a safe manner and maintain professional appearance.
• Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours.
• Employee responsible for city-owned vehicle/equipment during and after normal work hours.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of construction knowledge.
• Colorado Driver License and a good driving record.

Requirements

• Develop a general knowledge of state and local damage prevention regulations.
• Learn and apply safety measures relating to motor vehicle operation and other field-related matters.
• Excellent communication skills with the public.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Successfully complete City of Aurora’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests.
• Self-motivated and able to work alone.
• Possess a fundamental understanding of basic locating concepts and a basic understanding of the water distribution system.
• Read and interpret utility maps and utility records.
• Possess a fundamental understanding of the “one call” system rules and regulations.

Working Conditions

• Essential Personnel: All city of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel during local emergencies or disasters.
• Physical Demands: Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
• Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 50 pounds.
• Must be able to ride in a vehicle for up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
• Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
• Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather.
• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
• Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
