Role Description

The Vice President, States Initiatives will lead the entire portfolio focused on ambitious reform of state governments, working with a growing field of partners. This role owns both the strategy and the operations of RAF's state-level work.

• Develop and execute a scalable state strategy grounded in clear criteria for investment.
• Build a portfolio of state-focused bets prioritizing high potential opportunities.
• Envision and design creative, scalable mechanisms for engaging state partners.
• Experiment with various approaches to support reform in states.
• Ensure field-building is a throughline in our states work.
• Create forums for ecosystem organizations to engage and generate new ideas.
• Advocate for political conditions conducive to reform.
• Capture and synthesize lessons learned to benefit the field.
• Contribute to building RAF as a high-performing organization.

Qualifications

• 10-20 years of experience in government reform or public sector innovation.
• Experience working closely with state government.
• Ability to create conditions for an ecosystem to deliver wins at scale.
• Strong relationship-building skills across ideological divides.
• Experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
• Familiarity with AI and its applications in strategic work.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.

Requirements

• Ability to articulate theories of change and manage upward effectively.
• Strong management and team-building skills.
• Experience in representing work to funders and building philanthropic cases.
