Role Description

The Underwriter will underwrite fully underwritten Long-Term Care cases, including new business, reinstatements, and policy changes, applying established underwriting guidelines and sound professional judgement. You will also partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality decisions. This position may be filled at the Underwriter II or III level, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant fully underwritten Long-Term Care underwriting experience, with demonstrated ability to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong underwriting expertise and judgment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and relationship skills.
• Strong organization and technology skills.
• Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

Requirements

• Ability to analyze complex risks, make independent decisions, and clearly explain the rationale behind those decisions while adhering to company and reinsurance guidelines.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, mathematical and financial aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to creatively apply underwriting concepts and practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, customer-service, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills with internal and external partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, work independently, use Microsoft Office and other business tools effectively, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
• Promote a collaborative culture, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.

Benefits

• Estimated Salary (Levels have variable responsibilities and qualifications):
• Underwriter II: $25.50 - $32.00 per hour, plus annual bonus opportunity.
• Underwriter III: $68,000 - $87,500, plus annual bonus opportunity.

Preferred

• Experience with Accelerated Underwriting programs.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• FLMI, FALU, or CLU coursework completed, in progress, or actively being pursued.
• Successful completion of LOMA 280/281, 290, 311, and 386, and ALU 101 and 201.
• Experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of other underwriters.
