Role Description

As our System Director, Hospital Medicine Operations, you will serve as a strategic leader responsible for driving clinical excellence and operational efficiency across our national Physician Enterprise hospital medicine programs. Working closely with the System Vice President, you will spearhead the development and implementation of high-impact initiatives that align with our core mission, ensuring that our hospitalist services deliver consistent, high-quality patient outcomes across every site of care.

Every day you will:

• Cultivate and leverage strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional leadership, including hospitalist physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and market-level management teams.
• Focus on optimizing program performance, streamlining workflows, and implementing systemic improvements that enhance both the provider experience and the quality of care provided to our patients.
• Ensure seamless operations from the national level down to individual clinical sites.

You will possess the expertise to influence and mentor market and site-of-care medical directors, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.

By bridging the gap between strategic vision and on-the-ground execution, you will ensure our hospital medicine programs remain at the forefront of healthcare delivery and fiscal stewardship.

For example, this role will share responsibility for:

• Development and performance of market and site-of-care level hospital medicine directors and managers.
• Implementation and maintenance of practice standards and documentation improvement.
• Provider compensation plan development and management.
• Management of market and system hospital medicine operational reviews with hospital medicine leadership.
• Consulting on the establishment of national, market, and site-of-care level hospital medicine governance.

This leader is responsible for aligning initiatives with CommonSpirit Health and Physician Enterprise goals, ensuring that current and future programs and initiatives align with CommonSpirit Health strategies, mission, vision, and values.

This role will also be responsible for leading and participating in project teams. This position has joint accountability with national and local leadership for managing budgets, revenue cycle, clinical outcomes, program scorecards, provider experience, patient experience, and staffing of our hospital medicine programs.

• Program Development: Lead workgroups and initiatives that create organizational consensus for hospital medicine operational and clinical best practices, including provider and patient experience, quality, and safety.
• People Development: Partner to develop subject matter expertise and leadership excellence in hospital medicine market and site of care level directors and managers.
• Financial Stewardship: Partner with local and national leaders to ensure all CommonSpirit Health Physician Enterprise hospital medicine programs have consistent budgeting and financial management processes.
• Data: Ensure that CommonSpirit Health Physician Enterprise hospital medicine programs have consistent operational, quality, and financial data that is actionable for program improvement.
• Program evaluation, consulting, and insourcing: Perform in-depth program consultation and evaluation in support of hospital medicine program improvement and potential program insourcing.
• Academics: Ensure that our inpatient Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Graduate Medical Education and Undergraduate Medical Education programs collaborate to develop and share best practices for academic programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in healthcare related discipline.
• Masters or higher in healthcare discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of clinical experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of healthcare leadership experience.
• Experience with quality improvement/process improvement techniques, project/program management experience.
• Experienced in change management processes.
