Role Description
The Sustainability Expert is a subject matter expert (SME) responsible for supporting Assent’s objective of being a market-leading software and services solution for a wide variety of customers and industries. This role requires a highly knowledgeable and experienced regulatory and sustainability subject matter expert to lead the development of best practices, while constantly influencing existing solutions and identifying business opportunities for Assent to develop new products in response to the regulatory and sustainability outlook. This role will work closely with internal teams as well as external stakeholders to provide full cycle expertise and guidance that support Assent’s value proposition and business goals.
- Be a trusted subject matter expert, demonstrating depth and growing breadth of knowledge in several areas of sustainability and responsible sourcing.
- Specific attention to regulatory and industry objectives for responsible sourcing, corporate reporting and ESG programs.
- Keep abreast of regulatory, sustainability and industry-led developments and identify trends through ongoing monitoring and research of global standards and regulations as well as industry group engagement.
- Engage with the Product Management team to identify opportunities for Assent to develop new products and software solutions.
- Support the ongoing evolution of Assent’s solution including the establishment of market best practices.
- Provide ongoing expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support trade association engagement by contributing to working groups and building relationships.
- Demonstrate thought leadership and support Assent’s brand recognition by collaborating with marketing teams.
- Support training programs and educational initiatives related to regulatory compliance, ESG and responsible sourcing topics.
- Be familiar with corporate security policies and follow the guidance set out by processes and procedures of Assent Inc.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of practical experience related to ESG, responsible sourcing, corporate sustainability, human rights, scope 3 emissions, responsible business conduct/corporate social responsibility or similar.
- Relevant post-secondary degree in Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, Human Rights, Environmental Science, Business or similar relevant field.
- Understanding of manufacturing practices with experience in responsible sourcing, procurement, or other product or supply chain management roles is desirable.
- Familiarity with sustainability software solutions (e.g. Assent, Ecovadis, Source Intelligence, SupplyShift, IntegrityNext, Sphera, iPoint, etc) is desirable.
- Familiarity with ESG and Sustainability Reporting Standards (e.g. GRI, SASB, etc) and industry-specific requirements.
- Strong research, critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is desirable.
- Superb collaboration and influencing skills.
- Highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, and drive results.

- This position may require regular travel, including internationally, for team and industry events, conferences, and customers.
