As an Underwriting Specialist in Brokerage Excess, you will:

• Determine individual risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions.
• Develop, analyze, and evaluate information and exposures on risks of a complex technical nature for the Excess Casualty line of business.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned brokers or program managers.
• Review and analyze claims, loss history, and take appropriate action on accounts.
• Work independently with a high level of authority and judgment.
• Determine appropriate reinsurance placement, if any, on individual accounts.
• Foster positive business relationships with co-workers, brokers, and reinsurers.
• Assist with research, development, and presentation of new products, forms, and manuals.
• Have opportunities to assist in the training and mentoring of Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI is preferred.
• Five years as a CL underwriter, excess & surplus lines experience preferred.

Requirements

• Knowledge of CL underwriting policies, practices, and procedures.
• Knowledge of insurance law and underwriting marketing principles and techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrates negotiation skills.
• Ability to analyze insurance risks to determine acceptability.
• Ability to devise business solutions to problems and monitor effectiveness.
• Ability to make decisions with minimal supervision.
