Role Description

As a Somali-English Video-Phone Interpreter, you will be responsible for handling calls on demand and rendering the meaning of conversations between Somali and English speakers. This position does not involve written translation; interpreters translate verbally.

• Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Participate in online, video, and audio training sessions.
• Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a dedicated device.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
• Remain calm during sessions, especially in emergency situations.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
• Follow client instructions to ensure expectations are met.
• Understand protocol and terminology for various industries.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Somali and English, with cultural competency.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive conversations.
• Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write the requested languages is highly preferred.
