Role Description

Responsible for ensuring full compliance with the corporate safety program and how the safety program is set up, executed, and maintained on the jobsite. The Senior Safety Manager is expected to be a key member in support of the safety professionals on their assigned jobsites. This position will ensure documentation and training are all properly maintained and functioning at a high level on their assigned projects. The Senior Safety Manager represents the corporate safety department in the field and is forward facing to our clients, external customers, and peers. This position must maintain a high level of integrity and professionalism in all their duties while acting as the primary technical and leadership resource to our field safety professionals.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the execution of the company’s safety processes and programs on projects.
• Constantly emphasize involvement in the company safety process from all levels of management and craft.
• Promote excellent safety leadership at all levels of our organization.
• Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of the company’s resources.
• Support the company’s safety philosophy, practice, and goals.
• Function as a team player and maintain excellent communication within the Safety Department.
• Assure that all projects have all required elements of the safety program in place.
• Develop or assist in the development of safety plans and review for completeness.
• Assist the onsite safety team in establishing the safety program.
• Maintain frequent, effective communication with client representatives.
• Facilitate regulatory visits and provide support during inquiries and document requests.
• Assist in the management of emergencies or events requiring a higher-level response.
• Review, approve, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
• Evaluate field safety programs and provide leadership recommendations for changes.
• Drive consistency in our safety program across all projects.
• Participate in tactical planning and support corporate safety initiatives.
• Support project safety professionals and Safety Case Manager with injury case management.
• Attend all phase gates for assigned projects or seek alternates.
• Assure projects have the appropriate safety staffing and make staffing decisions.
• Keep the EHS Leadership apprised of upcoming project safety staffing needs.
• Assist the EHS Leadership with annual performance assessments for safety team members.
• Maintain strong communications with site management and EHS Leadership regarding compliance.
• Ensure complete and appropriate corrective action for serious safety conditions.
• Inspect work for accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Assure compliance with safety policies and applicable regulations through ongoing reviews.
• Perform quarterly project scorecards to ensure key safety management systems are in use.
• Ensure front-line site supervisors understand their responsibilities within the safety program.
• Assist Project Management in managing occupational injuries for injured workers.
• Ensure proper quality and quantity of safety professionals assigned to projects.
• Champion the near miss reporting program.
• Provide training, mentoring, and career opportunities to safety professionals.
• Assist in the selection and assignment of safety professionals.
• Assist in the identification and recruitment of qualified site safety personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, or a safety-related field preferred.
• CHST or equivalent within six months of position entry date.
• 6-10 years of construction safety management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of safety leadership.
