Role Description

Come join our team! The Prince George's County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill a Senior Executive position in the Office of the Director.

The County seeks a leader with outstanding management and leadership skills, including the ability to:

• Collaborate, relate, and communicate effectively to a broad range of people both internally and in the community.
• Demonstrate a commitment to staff development and involvement, with a focus on developing future leadership for the department and County.
• Anticipate and solve problems, identify alternative courses of action, and prepare and deliver proactive recommendations.

The Senior Executive will be responsible for:

• Overall leadership and oversight of the department.
• Providing counsel, motivation, and constructive performance feedback to all assigned staff in support of the mission and strategic goals of DPW&T.
• Providing technical guidance and oversight on all public works projects and programs, including:
• Regional transportation planning
• Engineering design
• Street maintenance
• Gravel roads
• Stormwater management
• Public right-of-way
• Traffic engineering and maintenance
• Construction inspection
• Special projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible public works experience.
• At least seven (7) years of experience at the supervisory and management level.
• Excellent writing, verbal, human relations, leadership, and management skills.
• Broad-based financial management/budgeting skills to manage cost containment and conduct financial projections of a complex operating budget.

• Eligibility to work in the U.S. under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes:

• 900 bridges
• Shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters
• Stormwater management facilities
• Driveway aprons
• Nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area

DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities including:

• Removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways
• Upgrading traffic signals

• Unclogging drainage inlets
• Maintaining stormwater management facilities
