Role Description

The Senior Estimator position will generally lead large conceptual EPC bids where experience plays a vital role in developing a good estimate. Additionally, this position will be the lead Senior Estimator in a given industry/market.

Senior Estimator will report to the Estimating Manager in their service line. This position will provide leadership and coordination to their given industry/market and will also be assigned to large projects with responsibility for all aspects of RFP requirements, winning proposal strategies, alternate contracting strategies, and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Develop a complete understanding of applicable company policies and procedures and execute assigned work accordingly.
• Examine/inspect office conditions and/or procedures and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures.
• Manage the work of direct report(s), inspecting their work for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews for direct reports.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
• Identify workplace hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize them.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
• Provide leadership, coordination, and guidance to other Estimators (I, II, & III) in their assigned industry or market.
• Lead strategic initiatives related to company, department, or industry/market specific improvements.
• Manage the available bid time to ensure accurate and timely preparation of a complete estimate.
• Function as a team player; create an environment where other groups and individuals want to work with you.
• Perform complete conceptual estimates for large, complex EPC projects from receipt of bid package through final bid review.
• Utilize ability and experience to conceptualize portions of the estimate.
• Organize and detail the estimate for clarity and efficiency.
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism when representing MIC to clients, engineers, vendors, or competitors.
• Perform entire conceptual estimates for large EPC, design build, general construction, and joint venture projects.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of all aspects of Construction Estimating and manage bid teams for large, complex projects.
• Master technical estimating responsibilities including site visits, scope determination, and input into estimating software.
• Understand RFQ requirements and provide written clarifications to owner/engineer/estimators.
• Supervise and line out all people on the bid team, providing adequate information and establishing bidding schedules.
• Perform final reviews at least two days before bid due date and critically analyze each aspect of the estimate.
• Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of construction estimating experience.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, and construction management.
• Knowledge of various contract types including EPC, DB, and JV.
• Experience in contract negotiations.
• Experience in working with a variety of vendors and clients.
• Experience in leading bids on a regular basis.
