Role Description

Responsible for supporting and assisting the Vice President of Amateur Scouting in all facets of player evaluation.

• Evaluate and report on all players in the assigned area.
• Maintain and update a comprehensive “Preference List” for the assigned area.
• Provide and present all relevant background information (interviews, character assessments, test applications, etc.) on prospects in the assigned area.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Mariners role system and apply it at all levels.
• File schedules for all schools/programs in the assigned area.
• Provide guidance and recommendation for incoming crosscheckers and other members of the scouting department.
• Provide prospect “follow reports” on prospects for upcoming draft classes.
• Author and provide reports, preferences and recommendations in all forms of player acquisition (Trade, Free Agency, Rule 4 Draft, Rule 5 Draft, 6-Year Free Agency, etc.).
• Special Assignment coverages as assigned by Vice President, Amateur Scouting.
• Evaluate all assigned coverages and players-of-interest.
• Attend Regional Scouting meeting in advance of the annual July Draft. Provide detailed presentation of each prospect in the assigned area.
• Regularly collaborate with scouting leadership in developing self-improvement plans in all areas, including goal planning and reviews.
• Aid Pro Scouting Department when assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Equivalent, relevant work experience would be considered.
• A minimum of two (2) years of scouting experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to evaluate talent across all levels of amateur and professional baseball.

• Travel required.
• Must live within assigned region.
