Role Description

The Indigenous Research Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting a competitive national Indigenous policy program – Indigenous Perspectives – in partnership with the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Research (CIER). This position plays an integral role in ensuring authors are supported throughout their writing journey and that program details are organized year round. Further, this role will support the Indigenous research team with research activities.

The ideal candidate combines lived experience and a meaningful commitment to reconciliation and decolonization with practical skills in event planning, program coordination, and a genuine passion for Indigenous-led climate policy research.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery and evaluation of the Indigenous Perspectives case study program, including the development of impact reports, yearly insights, and program surveys, with strategic oversight from the Director, Indigenous Research.
  • Compile adjudication packages, coordinate the review committee process, and manage outreach and communications to all applicants throughout the selection cycle.
  • Coordinate meetings with authors, research mentors, communication mentors, and Indigenous advisors, ensuring participants are well-supported throughout their writing journey.
  • Work closely with CIER as a primary partner to deliver all program requirements maintaining a strong and collaborative working relationship year-round.
  • Maintain and update program materials on a defined annual cycle, including program guides, communication materials, newsletters, and social media assets.
  • Plan and execute online workshops and the annual in-person roundtable event in collaboration with the External Affairs team and CIER staff, managing logistics from conception through evaluation.
  • Contribute to team-wide research and engagement activities, including literature reviews, data management, and event support, in collaboration with the Research Associate and Director.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver complex programs to tight deadlines in a remote workplace.
  • Proven ability to lead the end-to-end design, delivery, and evaluation of complex programs, including the development of impact reports and yearly insights.
  • Experience managing formal selection processes, including compiling adjudication packages, coordinating review committees, and managing applicant outreach.
  • Experience planning and executing virtual workshops and large-scale, in-person events in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and lived experience may be considered.
  • Experience with Indigenous engagement and/or stakeholder relationships in a government, political, corporate, research or non-profit context.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of one or more of the following: decolonization, two-eyed seeing and/or Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and a strong background applying Indigenous research methodologies and trauma informed praxis in your work.
  • Ability to collaborate and work on a team as well as autonomously.
  • Familiarity with OCAP principles, Truth & Reconciliation, United Nations Declaration Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and MMIWG2S+ is an asset.
  • Preference will be given to qualified First Nations, Métis, or Inuit candidates and we strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples.
