Role Description

COX FLEET is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician who will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel & Trailer Technician continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Diesel & Trailer Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to:
  • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
  • Starters/Alternators
  • Fan clutches
  • Engine electronics
  • Diesel steering systems
  • Engines (gas and diesel)
  • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
  • Clutches
  • Differentials
• Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems including, but not limited to:
  • Aluminum and chem-lite
  • Trailer brakes
  • Air lines
  • Auxiliary pumps and engines
  • Liftgates
  • Brake chambers
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment.
• Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
• Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck.
• Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Work with clients and customers to assess their needs and resolve their problems.
• Manage concurrent assigned tasks and prioritize work-related activities.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
• Document work performed and findings on Repair Orders using company-issued iOS device.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely manner.
• Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
• Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
• Communicate with management and support team via email or phone.
• Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
• Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
• Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
• A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
• Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
• Safe drivers needed and 3 YR MVR review required; must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.

Requirements

• ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification preferred.
• ASE T4 (Brakes) certification preferred.
• ASE T5 (Suspension) certification preferred.
• ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification preferred.
• ASE T7 (HVAC) certification preferred.
• ASE 608/609 certification preferred.
